Choosing Acne
Creams - A Few Things To Keep In Mind
Acne creams are readily available and can be
used as quick fixes for your pimples. As there are more than 17
million people in the US who suffer from acne, you can imagine
the demand for these creams. They are available at your local
pharmacy and even some supermarkets. There are divided views
about the effectiveness of these creams. Some people swear by
them and others feel that natural remedies are much better as
chemicals only make things worse. It's up to you to decide what
works best for you.
Different Types Of Acne
Creams
Each of us has a different skin type and
different levels of acne problems. So it is not easy to just
pick up any acne cream and use it. You need to identify your
skin type and the severity of your acne problem. And then, of
course, there are the different types of acne to consider. You
need to see whether you have to treat pimples, blackheads or
whiteheads. Each condition would require a particular type of
cream. Most creams work on all types of acne but if you need to
address a specific problem, then you need to check out the
different types of creams.
There are two ingredients used in acne creams
that work to get rid of your pimples. One is Benzoyl peroxide,
which acts as a peeling agent and promotes quicker skin
regeneration, which in turn helps in clearing pores faster. It
is very effective in treating and controlling acne. Another
ingredient is Resorcinol, which in combination with sulfur
helps to break down blackheads, pimples and whiteheads.
You must be careful when using acne creams. You
should check the instructions carefully and apply on the
affected areas as many times as specified. Applying too much
will not make the problem go away faster and in fact, may
aggravate your condition more. In case you are not sure of how
much and how many times to apply, the best thing would be to
consult a doctor.
There are a few basic rules when choosing an
acne cream. First identify your skin type. Do you have oily,
dry or combination skin? The next thing to do is to see what
creams are available for your skin type. If you have oily skin,
you should choose a water-based or gel-based product, like
Persa Gel by Johnson and Johnson. For dry skin, you will need a
cream with an antimicrobial agent to reduce your pimples but
not dry your skin further. If you have combination skin, then
identify which part is affected, the dry part or the oily part,
and use a cream accordingly.
You will also need to keep the cost of these
creams in mind. Some of them may be very expensive- so make
sure you buy something you can afford as you can usually use
these creams on a short-term basis. Another factor to keep in
mind is that acne creams make your skin more sensitive to
sunlight. So when you use acne creams, make sure you apply a
good sunscreen as well.
Most of us tend to get carried away by
advertising gimmicks and pick up whatever we see on TV or in
magazines. But once you know the basics that I have mentioned
above, you will be able to identify and buy the acne creams
that are most suitable to your skin.
